Recruiting celebrity producers really paid off
for Fela!, and another bold hued, sparkly-costumed Broadway musical just got a big helping hand from a star: after seeing the show in London, Bette Midler has become a very active producer on the touring, New York spring opening-
slated Priscilla Queen of the Desert musical. She's said to be putting up a significant portion of the Broadway production's $10 million costs. Don't get your hopes up for a triumphant return to the stage (pictured), though; she
told the
Post: "I'd be starring in it—if I were a gay man!"
Priscilla's
Broadway adventure begins previews on February 28 and opens March 20 at the Palace Theatre.
