Team Gallery plans expansion
Soho has lost some amazing galleries in the last two years, most notably Guild & Greyshkul and Deitch Projects, but a small core of commercial galleries in the former go-to art district are staying their ground, and one is even expanding. ArtInfo reports that Team Gallery, currently of 83 Grand Street (pictured) and playing host to a very intense Santiago Sierra show through Saturday, will be opening a big new space around the corner at 47 Wooster Street, which was an upscale jeans shop until two years ago and a Gourmet Garage before that, during New York Gallery Week in May 2011.

Given their robust roster of artists—which includes Cory Arcangel, Pierre Bismuth, Ryan McGinley, Sierra and Brice Dellsperger—the additional 3,200 square feet, with 20 foot ceilings, should allow for some interesting, expansive projects. Planning to leave the new space relatively raw and unpolished, owner José Freire tells AI: "It will be the butch to this gallery’s femme." Team is the new Deitch?
