Watch Contemporary Artists Explain Their Work to Their Parents

Posted By on Tue, Nov 2, 2010 at 9:43 AM

In video artists Lernert & Sander's series How Do I Explain It To My Parents, contemporary artists sit down with one or both of their parents and try to explain their work. So, for instance, right after the jump Martijn Hendriks (currently featured in Free at the New Museum) explains his "Give Us Our Daily Terror" series (above), in which he paintsakingly removed all the birds from various scenes in Hitchcock's The Birds.

"It has to do with something you can see in nearly everything I do," he tells his mother, "my curiosity about what it means to negate something or to do something nonproductive."

Watch the whole series here. (BrainPickings)
