Allora & Calzadilla, Stop, Repair, Prepare: Variations on Ode to Joy for a Prepared Piano (2008)

MoMA announced this morning the acquisition and upcoming exhibition of "Stop, Repair, Prepare: Variations on Ode to Joy for a Prepared Piano" (2008, above), a performance piece by next year's U.S. reps at the Venice Biennale, Allora & Calzadilla. The artwork, the ninth in MoMA's ongoing Performance series, will run from December 8 through January 10. Watch video of a previous performance after the jump.

This footage is from a January 2009 exhibition of "Stop, Repair, Prepare: Variations on Ode to Joy for a Prepared Piano" at Gladstone Gallery in Chelsea. The piece, as you can see, involves playing Beethoven while embedded inside a piano.
