What's So Bad About a Wal-Mart in East New York?

- This used to be a Wal-Mart (and was presumably, like, a field before that).
A Wal-Mart may come to East New York, the Daily News
reports. Now, once more, without
hipster backlash: Through the magic of "convenience" and artificially low price points backed by overly corporate-friendly American economic policies and environmentally irresponsible conveniences, chain stores parachute into neighborhoods, often impoverished ones, and create dependence, driving local business owners out of their storefronts and livelihoods, and eventually leaving nothing behind but grotesque and out-of-scale white elephant buildings.
God, everything's so much clearer when not freighted with the issues of race and class raised by gentrification.
