Village Voice Fires Wayne Barrett, Tom Robbins Quits in Protest

Posted by on Tue, Jan 4, 2011 at 12:04 PM

Although it seemed like the Village Voice's purge years were more or less over, the paper has just... released? Fired? fired longtime (since 1978) reporter Wayne Barrett, who signed off in a blog post this morning. With him went Tom Robbins: Barrett announced that his fellow longtime Voice muckraker quit in solidarity. Well, we'll always have Graham Rayman, I guess, but henceforth readers looking for deeply researched, intensely memory-banked investigative reporting about city and local politics is going to have to look... where, exactly? Hopefully more on this later.

Update ("later"): I talked to Village Voice editor in chief Tony Ortega, who, for starters, disputes this headline.
