Cedar Beach Sicko: Serial Killer Definitely Afoot in NY

Hunting for bodies
  • Hunting for bodies
Last month, police found four bodies on a barrier island 10 miles east of Jones Beach and believed it might be the work of a serial killer. This week, police have finished identifying the bodies: all four are women, sex workers who had been reported missing as long ago as 2007 from North Babylon up to Maine. "It appears the seaside sicko may be hunting a certain type of prostitute," the Daily News reported. "All three were tiny women under 5 feet and about 100 pounds." (The other victim, however, was 5'5", and 150 pounds, so...)

We've decided to call this killer the Cedar Beach Sicko, for the obvious alliteration. Oh, and because the bodies were discovered within the vicinity of Cedar Beach. (Google map) Also, authorities believe the killer may have found his (or her, but unlikely) victims on Craigslist, but Craigslist Killer is already taken by Phillip Markoff. As far as we can tell, this would be the New York metropolitan area's first serial killer—Markoff feels more New England, doesn't he?—since the 80s turned into the 90s. (Remember how many serial killer jokes Seinfeld used to make? Like, that Newman knew Berkowitz? Or "The Lopper" was killing women in Riverside Park? It was a different city, then.)
