The World's Most Literary Rent Party Ever, happening this Super Bowl Sunday at PS 122 brings together many of your favorite authors, whoring their primary and secondary talents out for a good cause. There'll be readings by Mary Gaitskill and Jim Shepard, and music by Tanya Donelly, John Wesley Harding, Claudia Gonson of the Magnetic Fields, Rick Moody, and more; there'll be a "literary advice booth" (advice on your literature, or advice inspired by literature?) manned by Susan Cheever, Joshua Ferris, Rivka Galchen, Amy Hempel, A.M. Homes, Alison Smith, Hannah Tinti and John Wray; there'll be a raffle with signed books and other goodies, and there'll be an auction. How much would you pay to have Amy Hempel walk your dog? Joshua Ferris bake you a pie? To have Gary Shteyngart "flatter you shamelessly and buy you hot dogs"? One wonders.

(The entire event is a benefit for Charles Bock, author of the lauded novel Beautiful Children, whose wife (they have a young child) has been stricken with some serious health troubles. Advance tickets are on sale now.)

"A few nights ago, I had a dream that my long-dead childhood pet—an overweight Springer Spaniel named Peppermint Patty—ate my entire novel, page by page, wagging her tail the entire time. When she was finished, she woofed once, licked my face, and curled up next to me on the sofa. She appeared deeply satisfied."
