We're giving away two free tickets to NOW SHOWING, a silent auction showcasing the works of 18 emerging young artists on Wednesday evening, March 9.
The non-silent part of the auction will feature performances by piano ingénue Max Vernon and quirky Victorian chamber-punk outfit Rasputina. Jesse Eisenberg will even be in attendance with a “literary performance” up his cardigan sleeve. Not sure what this entails, but maybe Eisenberg’s SNL monologue was just practice for this gig. (Odds are Andy Samberg won’t show up in matching dork-wear).
The artists presenting their work are all winners of The Scholastic Art & Writing Awards - an esteemed 88-year-old tradition that’s celebrated past winners like Andy Warhol, Sylvia Plath, Truman Capote, Richard Avedon and Joyce Carol Oates. NOW SHOWING is hosted by the Alliance for Young Artists & Writers who use the proceeds to benefit teenage artists. Check out a slideshow of the artwork here.
So if you want to spend a weeknight doing something culturally enriching that makes the world a better place for struggling young artists tweet at our new free stuff twitter. The winner gets two tickets at a $60 value.
NOW SHOWING will be held Wednesday, March 9, 8:30 p.m. -11:30 p.m. at Astor Center (399 Lafayette St.).
