Watch Cat Power Perform a Brand New Song, Continue Waiting Impatiently for Details about a New Album

Posted By on Tue, Feb 8, 2011 at 3:55 PM

At their show last week in San Francisco, Cat Power and her Dirty Delta Blues band opened with a brand new song. It's very slow, and mostly very quiet, except when Chan Marshall lets her voice open up a bit. Make no mistake about it, there is something quietly triumphant about the traditionally less-than-sunshiney performer singing the line, "27 was a good year," reminding us, maybe, that she's managed not only to hold on, but to remain relevant and often awe-inspiring, even now as she approaches 40 years old. There is, of course, something less triumphant about her singing the line, "Standing on the street in a hospital street," but that's besides the point for now. [Pitchfork]
