Art / News DUMBO's New Cultural Affairs Director Has Top-Shelf Art World Credentials

Last month Zannah Mass left her job as the Cultural Affairs Director for Two Trees Management—the real estate company that owns most of DUMBO, oversees the DUMBO Arts Festival (pictured) and keeps a strong set of arts groups in the area—a post she'd held since 2007. Now, DumboNYC reports that Lisa Kim has been selected as Mass's successor, and she brings some pretty hefty art world muscle to the job.
Kim worked her way up the ranks at the world's biggest gallery chain, Gagosian Gallery, where her titles included Director of Operations and Exhibitions, private collection manager for owner Larry Gagosian, for whom she oversaw the construction of the gallery's massive, museum-sized West 24th Street space in Chelsea.
In addition to her major private art sector work, Kim spent two-and-a-half years directing North America's (and one of the world's) largest public contemporary art programs, New York City Department of Cultural Affairs' Percent for Art Program, which sets aside one percent of the money budgeted for eligible City-funded building projects to be spent on commissioning new artworks for the city's facilities.
The Korea-born, Jersey-raised Barnard Art History grad holds a Masters in Industrial Design from Pratt. Chief among her duties in DUMBO will be organizing the DUMBO Arts Festival in September and the many public art projects and sites throughout the neighborhood. Sounds like she's up to the job.
