Music Mr. Dream to Open for Archers of Loaf, Drummer Nick Sylvester Lists His Five Favorite Archers Songs

Word comes today that New York's very own Mr. Dream, purveyors of hard-hitting, 90s-referencing indie-rock that everyone keeps saying is back even though in reality no one aside from these guys has accurately captured so many different aspects of it, from the recording quality to the respect for melody and even to the audible disdain for most other things, have scored perhaps the ultimate slot for such a band: opening for the newly reunited Archers of Loaf at their two area shows in June. To mark the occasion, we asked Mr. Dream drummer and noted (former?) music critic Nick Sylvester to share with us a list of his five favorite Archers songs, and he was kind enough to do just that.

"Step into the Light" from Vee Vee — One of my favorite 'drum sound' tracks to a/b with.

"Wrong" from The Speed of Cattle — One of those 90s emo alt-rock songs that hasn't aged particularly well, but I love how committed the vocal performance is. "I don't want to see your face anymore!"

"Web In Front" from Icky Mettle — They could do Pavement better than Pavement. "There's a chance that things will get weird. Yeah, that's a possibility." Amazing.

"You And Me" from Icky Mettle — This is an Ur text for all the quiet and self-deprecating "slow" punk songs like Les Savy Fav's "Pots & Pans" and Mclusky's "Fuck This Band".
