It's the beginning of high season for cycling in the city, and Brooklyn's first cyclist fatality in months came yesterday afternoon around 3pm at the intersection of Avenue T and West 9th Street in Gravesend, where, the Daily News reports, 39-year-old Joseph Granati apparently rode through a red light, was struck by a Nissan and died at the scene.

Granati, a resident of Bath Beach, the next neighborhood over, was riding north on W 9th Street when he turned onto Avenue T and was struck by the 2002 Altima, which had a green light. The NYPD told the News that "Granati's head smashed through the rear passenger-side window of the car." The 24-year-old driver stayed at the scene of the accident, but isn't being charged with any crime.

Please don't run red lights, at least not before slowing down and checking for cars first. (Streetsblog)
