The documentary was directed by Sweden's Mikel Cee Karlsson and Fredrik Egerstrand, who spent three years shooting Gonzalez in his studio, at home and on tour. If you don't recognize those names off the top of your head, you might be familiar with Karlsson's work through Fever Ray. Karlsson directed the beautiful, gloomy music video for "Triangle Walks."
Gonzalez, who is probably best known for his soft, gorgeous acoustic covers of unlikely tracks, recorded his first album, Veneer, while pursuing a PhD in biochemistry at the University of Gothenburg. The trailer for the documentary about his life, which starts off with a clip of Gonzalez hunched over his desk in a recording studio, quietly agonizing over lack of inspiration, looks exceptionally depressing, but exceptionally well-done.
