We all know that the most important part of any weekend, especially Memorial Day weekend, is drinking. That's why we asked 10 beer, wine and cocktail experts what they'll be imbibing over the long weekend. Skål!
Jimmy Carbone (Beer Guru, Owner of Jimmy's No. 43): This weekend I'll be prepping for Brewers PicNyc on Governors Island, so I'll be sampling some previews of summer beers. Nothing beats a good pilsner like Sixpoint Sehr Crisp or a refreshing wheat beer like Sly Fox's Royal Weisse!
Talitha Whidbee (Owner, Vine Wine): This weekend we are drinking Muralhas Vinho Verde Rosé and the Casal Mendes Vinho Verde. Both of these wines are light and refreshing and the perfect foil to this swamp-like weather.
Lauren Shockey (Author, Four Kitchens: My Life Behind the Burner in New York, Hanoi, Tel Aviv, and Paris): A dark and stormy. BEST. SUMMER. DRINK. EVER. I will drink them anywhere, but I just learned that El Cobre has the drink on tap. How cool is that?
Liza de Guia (Founder, Food Curated): I'm planning to get into some homemade white sangria with fresh peaches and apricots, chilled and sipped on the beach.
Maia Raposo (Marketing Coordinator, Brooklyn Brewery): I'll be drinking the Penicillin cocktail to get ready for the Brooklyn Brewery's new Brewmaster's Reserve, The Tonic, which is premiering next week!
Jonny Cigar (Host, The Noble Rot): I'll be sipping on Trefethen Family Vineyards 2007 Harmony Chardonnay, because one whiff says that summer approaches, transporting me 3,000 miles west and suddenly from my Brooklyn terrace the BQE takes on the shapes of the Mayacama Mountain range and I imagine that at any moment on Saturday or Sunday I can walk downstairs, find a fig tree and feast on fresh figs with a glass of tasty Cali Chardonnay and retire for good, all before Monday.
Shaul Margulies (Owner, Zenkichi and Akariba): Akariba's Japanese mojitos, like the ringo mojito, made with Fuji apple-infused shochu, or the shisho mojito, with shiso-infused shochu and lime syrup. They are both light, fresh and thirst-quenching. ($5 from 6pm-8pm, Wednesday through Saturday).
Annaliese Griffin (Senior Editor, Brooklyn Based): I'm planning on having a Brooklyn Brewery IPA at the Atlantic Avenue Immersion and then going home and enjoying a bottle of rosé from Wolffer Estate on Long Island on my roof.
