Theater Mormons, Soldiers and AIDS Activists Dominate 2011 Tonys

As expected, Book of Mormon, the musical about Mormon missionaries sent to Uganda created by South Park co-creators Matt Stone and Trey Parker with Avenue Q's Robert Lopez, swept last night's Tony Awards, leading the way with nine trophies including best musical, best original score, best direction in a musical and best book. The other big winners were WWI equestrian epic War Horse, which won all five categories in which it was nominated (including best play and best direction in a play) plus a special prize for puppetry, and AIDS activism dramaThe Normal Heart, which took three including best revival of a play.
