Theater Bonnie and Clyde Will Knock Off Broadway Box Office in Fall

Almost exactly a year after rumors first surfaced the stage musical version of the Bonnie Parker and Clyde Barrow story, Bonnie & Clyde, will open on Broadway December 1st. ArtsBeat reports that after premiering at California's La Jolla Playhouse and playing at the Asolo Repertory Theatre in Sarasota, Florida, the Depression-era bank-robbing lovers' will begin previews at the Gerald Schoenfeld Theater on November 4.
We're reminded of the recent struggles of another Broadway musical based upon a hot pop culture property and much-loved movie. B&C features a similarly hybrid set of creatives on its team, including a book by Disney Channel producer Ivan Menchell, lyrics by Andrew Lloyd Weber collaborator Don Black, and music by Frank Wildhorn, whose previous Broadway credit, Wonderland, just flopped hard.
The two leads have a more encouraging resume: Laura Osnes, currently in the much-loved Broadway revival of Anything Goes, will play Bonnie, and Jeremy Jordan of Rock of Ages and West Side Story will play Clyde. Since there's no obvious way to incorporate aerial wire fighting into the story of Bonnie & Clyde, we expect several full-fledged car chases with real period vehicles to take place on stage, nearly killing several actors and possibly grazing a few front row spectators.
