Last we saw Brooklyn-based street artist Swoon, aka Callie Curry, she was talking up her Kombit Shelter sustainable housing endeavor in Haiti, but she's moved on to another artful housing project: to build a house-sized musical instrument inspired by the architecture of Creole cottages in New Orleans' Bywater neighborhood.

The playable building-sized sculpture, to be titled, "The Dithyrambalina," is being built in partnership with local arts organization New Orleans Airlift, but is also reliant upon a Kickstarter campaign to raise $12,000 by July 28—currently over $7,000 has been pledged to the project.

Local musicians and sound artists are prototyping various instruments that can be built into the house's walls, floors and ceilings, all of which will be showcase this fall in a temporary installation titled "The Music Box - A Shantytown Sound Laboratory." As the Kickstarter page puts it:

This is our testing ground for singing walls, organ floorboards, and percussion triggered by the human heartbeat... Interactive, mechanical art can be finicky and we need to get it right before we build the house.

But why read about it? Here's Swoon and one of the sound artists explaining the project.

If you pledge $10 or more you get a handmade card! $3,000 gets you a pair of limited run prints.
