The top-notch non-commercial theater St. Ann's Warehouse may be ten months away from getting kicked out of its DUMBO home, but the performing arts presenter plans to go out with a bang. Playbill reports that as part of a festival organized by St. Ann's and The Creators Project the theater will host a short production of a new opera created by Yeah Yeah Yeahs frontwoman Karen O and Off Broadway playwright-director sensation Adam Rapp.
In an email message yesterday St. Ann's artistic director Susan Feldman thanked the theater's supporters during this trying time, and expressed optimism about the season ahead:
In the meantime, we are looking forward to a great season in our current DUMBO home, beginning this October through May 2012. It kicks off with an exciting collaboration with St. Ann’s and The Creators Project presenting the premiere of a new Karen O psycho-opera, an assault on the tragic joys of youth, that will be directed by Adam Rapp.
And with Rapp coming off the tremendous success of his epic Hallway Trilogy at Rattlestick, attendees should be prepared for a show of truly operatic duration.
