This weekend the New Art Dealers Alliance (NADA) debuted its upstate don't-call-it-an-art-fair site-specific project NADA Hudson in the riverside town of the same name. Amtrak ticket prices aside, it was really terrific, with over 50 galleries—including most major Lower East Side galleries—sharing the giant Basilica Hudson and its grounds.

The installation was a nice change from art fair conventions, with the sculpture-dominated exhibition divided up between galleries on an open plan. The main room featured 24 galleries whose displays flowed nicely into one another, allowing visitors to circulate in any manner they pleased. Adjacent rooms included a stage for performance art programming, a few project rooms and smaller spaces where four or five galleries showed their wares. A few (like James Graham & Sons and Zach Feuer) created structures on which their paintings and sculptures were installed, but for the most part pieces were installed directly on the Basilica's concrete floor and brick walls.

Personal highlights included the Rachel Uffner, Nicelle Beauchene and Jack Hanley galleries' displays, as you'll see in this slideshow. If/when NADA Hudson happens again next year, which it hopefully will, don't miss it.
