DOT to Phase Out All Brooklyn's Parking Meters By Next Summer

Seemed like a good idea at the time.

Watch the parking meters—while you can! The South Brooklyn Post (via Brownstoner) reports on the DOT's plans to "replace all remaining single-space parking meters with muni-meters throughout Brooklyn," between now and next June.

The new muni-meters will also charge 25 cents per 15 minutes (so a dollar per hour), up from 25 cents per 20 minutes on the current meters, which is still a pretty reasonable gratuity for the continued maintenance of the streets on which we so blithely drive etc.

Meanwhile, in other consolidation-of-obsolete-single-function-devices news, the Brooklyn Eagle reports on the city's plans to phase out streetside fire alarm call boxes. Will anyone stand up for these long-ubiquitous, soon-to-be-phased-out feature of the urban landscape? Eh, maybe if they were easier to fit a U-lock around.
