Tumblr Blog Collects the Worst Artworks Submitted to World's Biggest Art Contest

Grand Rapids, Michigan's ArtPrize, an art competition whose top prize of $250,000 is awarded by public vote—and two years ago went to Brooklyn-based painter Ran Ortner—is the world's biggest art prize not only by virtue of its handsome reward, but because anybody can submit anything for consideration. As visitors to this year's ArtPrize (opening tomorrow) will see, there's a lot of awful, awful bottom-rung-Etsy caliber art in the running, a fraction of which is now being delightfully lampooned on the Tumblr blog Artprize Worst.

The works currently on view at Artprize Worst are from last year's competition—including these glittery birdhouses, this precious wooden statue, the airborne porcine pictured above, this Jasper Johnsian 49-state map of the U.S., and this descriptively titled painting "Girl With a Wiener Dog"—but they're getting ready for 2011 ArtPrize. It'll be hard to top this Jesus bench, though:
