Craig Finn Covers The Replacements, Watch on Your Computer

Posted by Lauren Beck on Thu, Nov 17, 2011 at 3:10 PM

Because it is our esteemed managing editor's birthday and because every day he strives to be a little more like Craig Finn, and therefore Paul Westerberg, this video of Finn performing last night with Hold Steady guitarist Tad Kubler as part of a three-night Replacements tribute at Bowery Electric seems appropriate. Plus, you know, gives us a reason to tell you that Finn just announced dates for his first-ever solo tour, for his first-ever solo album: the Friday Night Lights-nodding Clear Heart Full Eyes, out January 24. Watch till the end of the video, when Finn talks about going out and buying a copy of Hootenanny after being tipped off by his tennis buddy and their shared love for The Ramones. (Finn will be playing tonight's round of shows too; tickets are still available for the late one.)

After the jump, watch the pass-the-mic cover of "Bastards of Young" during last night's encore, featuring Finn, Kubler, Jesse Malin, Tommy Ramone and Patrick Stickles, who undoubtedly tweeted about it.

It's so ramshackle, it's perfect.
