News Classic Boardwalk Businesses to Return to Coney in 2012

Zamperla had hoped to fill the spaces with upscale outlets run by Miami hoteliers. But those poetential operators backed out after their ice cream spot, Coney Cones, failed to meet expectations over this past summer, the Post reports. So, rather than have an empty boardwalk, Zamperla negotiated the return of several businesses they had evicted. "As part of the lease agreements, all the companies agreed to make substantial investments in their rental properties," the Post reports. "The businesses also agreed to stay open year round and to hire new staff from the neighborhood."
Other businesses from the original "Coney Island 8" won't be back, including Cha Cha's. On its former site, the Prospect Heights diner Tom's Restaurant will open an eatery.
