Gary Lutz’s most recent book is the short-story collection Divorcer. He reads at the first Franklin Park Reading Series reading of 2012 this coming on Monday night, with headliner Sam Lipsyte and others.

For our readers who may not be familiar with your work, what’s the most accurate thing someone else has said about it?
Maybe that it must have been written with great but aimless care.

What have you read/watched/listened to/looked at/ate recently that will permanently change our readers' lives for the better?
The scenes (including, especially, the DVD-bonus deleted ones) in which Michelle Williams appears—though that verb doesn’t begin to do justice to the way she shimmers beatifically onscreen—in the Wim Wenders film Land of Plenty, from 2004.

Whose ghostwritten celebrity tell-all (or novel) would you sprint to the store to buy (along with a copy of The Meditations of Marcus Aurelius so that the checkout clerk doesn’t look at you screwy)?
Andrej Pejic.

Have you ever been a Starving Artist, and did it make you brilliant, or just hungry?
I’ve always had a job and never been an artist, but I am always hungry (I must have some glycemia or another).

What would you characterize as an ideal interaction with a reader?
The reader reads the words and keeps me completely out of the picture.

Have you ever written anything that you'd like to take back?
Everything. All of it. The incinerator always has its say in the end.
