Around this time last year, the writer Jonathan Lethem infamously told the Los Angeles Times that "Brooklyn is repulsive with novelists, it's cancerous with novelists." Once the poster child for Brooklyn lit, Lethem has since decamped for the West Coast, where his annual wintertime routine includes granting an interview with a prominent California newspaper so he can insult his old hometown.

In a piece published in the San Francisco Gate earlier this week, Lethem looks back on Brooklyn, concluding, "it's been made blander, a little more accessible, and it's taken over the world." Right, like it totally sold out! Not like when Lethem was here, back when it was cool.
