Aside from listening to headphones and walking, texting and walking has also received scrutiny of late. Casey Neistat, the filmmaker responsible for the infamous and painful blocked bike lanes video, made an informative little doc on the subject, and the NYPD's 34th Precinct even created its own texting-while-walking awareness campaign last year.
So, yes, it's probably a bad idea to keep yourself in a state of partial awareness when traversing multiple lanes of traffic. But fear not, adrenaline junkies. There are still plenty of things you can do to bait serious injury in motion. No one's said anything about being blindfolded or eating large sandwiches (the kind that occupy your entire face/attention) while walking, yet.
