Art Beyond Performance Dome: MoMA PS1's New Geodesic Pavilion

We're all familiar (right?) with MoMA PS1's summertime architectural interventions into its cement-and-gravel courtyard, but this winter the Long Island City contemporary art museum is trying something new. On Sunday February 5 it will inaugurate the Performance Dome, a geodesic structure erected in its courtyard that, through May 13, will host performance art deathmatches special programs every Sunday.
Even more so than the museum's summer Warm Up! series, the Sunday Sessions will feature an eclectic program, including performance art, music, film, dance, lectures and multidisciplinary combinations thereof.
First up is one such collaborative program for Sunday, which features musician Nicolas Jaar performing a five-hour set of looped and sampled analogue instruments with Will Epstein, Dave Harrington and Sasha Spielberg, along with audio-visual input from filmmaker Ryan Staake and a movement piece by Lizzie Fiedelson.
Subsequent Sunday Sessions lineups have yet to be announced, as has the price of attending one. But one thing's for sure: Bucky Fuller would be happy to see his signature design being put to such an unconventional use.
