Brenner Eugenides, the lead guitarist of Broken Glow, died on Wednesday morning of complications from
diabetes, a bandmate confirmed in a Facebook message. He was 26 years old. The band achieved notoriety last July, when the FBI
announced it was searching for them in connection with a raid on the McKibbin Lofts, part of the far-reaching busts of the Anonymous hacking collective. It
turned out to be a "pretty big" misunderstanding. "None of us are anywhere close to being hackers," Eugenides
told me at the time. "We don't even know how."
Eugenides died at 3:30 a.m. on Wednesday. "The short end of it is that Brenner's blood sugar became fatally high, causing him to suffer from [diabetic keto]acidosis," lead singer and rhythm guitarist Garrett Deming wrote in an email.
There's been a much appreciated outpouring of support from the Brooklyn music community, and we've got ideations of throwing some kind of tribute show, but only once the dust settles and we can figure out what to do from here.
