Art MTA Launches Subway Art App, Calls Public Transit System A 'World Class Art Museum'

“This app will help our customers recognize that New York’s transportation system, besides helping 8.5 million people get to work every day, is a world-class art museum with works by many of the most renowned artists of the 20th and 21st centuries," said MTA Chairman Joseph J. Lhota in a press release.
"It gives a certain amount of dignity to your ride and your day," Sandra Bloodworth, director of Arts for Transit, told the New York Times.
Or, at least it might provide a distraction from that guy licking his shoes in the corner. But if you don't want to be present in the subway in order to enjoy its art, the Brooklyn Museum's collection of early Keith Haring pieces also includes a number of his subway drawings, in galleries where people don't pee on the floor.
