News Smith-Ninth Station Reopening Delayed

The Smith-Ninth Street station on the F/G line won't reopen until the fall, the Carroll Gardens Patch reports. The elevated train stop, closed since June for rehabilitation, was slated to spin its turnstiles anew at the end of this month, but the $32 million project—part of a larger project that has disrupted service at, and brought improvements to, other stops along the F line—won't be complete, the MTA said. G train service was to have been restored, with F service to follow, but now both will return together later in the year.
The station is the closest to Red Hook, which will now suffer several more months without a nearby subway station. (The MTA has tried to make small improvements to the B61 bus line—including new shelters and extra rush-hour buses—after it was exposed to be one of Brooklyn's least reliable.)
Here's still hoping that southbound G trains won't terminate at Smith-Ninth when the rehabilitation is complete.
Patch reports:
[The renovations] will include a new and expanded street level control house, new architectural metal panel escalator enclosure and rehabilitated stairs and platforms... the station will also have new lighting, public address and CCTV systems.
