News Solar-Powered Park Slope Brownstone Is The First Of Its Kind

The four-story complex, located at Fifth Avenue and Fifth Street, will feature wind turbines and a 15,000-watt solar panel system on the rooftop and awnings. Rents will go from $1,600 to $2,600, and the project promises to provide all electricity, heat and hot water to the building. David Scott, a spokesperson for the company, told the Brooklyn Paper he expects solar-powered homes in Park Slope to become increasingly important. “We’re on the forefront of a movement that is long overdue in New York," he said.
The brownstone to be gutted is 100 years-old, but developers say the historic facade will remain in place. Meanwhile, across the pond, one town that's been around since the 14th century is launching a plan to become the UK's first community powered by the sun. Park Slopers, do you hear a challenge?
