The Subway Has a New Hero, and His Name is Snackman

Posted By on Wed, Apr 11, 2012 at 10:35 AM

Last year, MTA board member Charles Moerdler floated the idea that food should be banned from the subways. His reasoning: the packaging that it comes in is thrown on the tracks, which leads to an increase in fires and rats. But as one YouTube clip making the Internet rounds shows, food on the subway also saves LIVES.

Maybe that’s a bit of a reach, but in a recently uploaded video, a man breaks up a kicking match between another man and a woman, not through physical retaliation, but by silently stepping between the intruders, and eating his snack. Specifically, Pringles from a bag of white cheddar popcorn. I don’t approve of the mix-and-matching, but I like the message: don’t fuck with me; I’m eating here. And like any good Internet sensation, he already has a GIF:

Wherever you are, Snackman, we thank you.
