Fort Greene Park
This grassy hill in the heart of Fort Greene offers plenty of shady spots, a farmers' market on Saturday, and a charming history told through plaques and monuments. The park's central monument, a single column dedicated Prison Ship Martyrs from the Revolutionary War sits at the top of the hill to serve as a visual reference point.
Pros: Has a diverse neighborhood crowd of all ages; it's not big enough to get lost or never find your friends in.
Cons: Can be crowded, especially on Saturdays
Places to fill your basket: Greene Grape Provisions (753 Fulton St.), Dekalb Natural Market (230 Dekalb Ave.), Saturday Greenmarket in the park
