Brighton Beach

Less crowded than Coney Island, you can still see the Wonder Wheel and Tilt-A-Whirl down the shoreline, but you're not right in the thick of it. Rather, you're in Little Odessa, an Eastern-European neighborhood, which means less rowdy teens and more baboushkas on the beach.

Pros: It's a beach, so there's sea breeze, warm sand, and illegal ice-cold Corona peddlers about

Cons: Chilly water until mid-late summer, questionable substances on the beach, wind blows away plates and napkins easily
Places to fill your basket: Georgian Bread (265 Neptune Ave.), Taste of Russia (219 Brighton Beach Ave.), Eric's Health Food Shoppe (508 Brighton Beach Ave.)
