Pictures from the Season's First Literary Upstart Reading

Posted by on Mon, May 14, 2012 at 3:00 PM

On Thursday night, the most attractive crowd in the eight-year history of the L's Literary Upstart: The Search for Pocket Fiction competition gathered in the very clean, very post-industrial, very chic event space of Williamsburg's new Wythe Hotel for the year's first semifinal reading.

Longtime Upstart attendees were unsurprised by the quality of the five featured stories, and rather more surprised to see an actually assertive and knowledgeable audience member run away with New York City Literary Trivia. The evening's winner, as selected by our panel of judges, was Jonathan Goldberg, for his story "Owl Stretching Time"; he'll read at the finals, at the Wythe on June 27, alongside the winners of the next two upcoming Upstart semifinals, on Thursday, May 24, and Wednesday, June 6, both at the Wythe, doors at 7pm.
