Sunset Rubdown, Dragonslayer
You know how every so often, you’ll start listening to an album for the first time that everyone else has already heard, loved, and talk about ad nauseum, so that when you try to bring it up, your friends are all like, “Yeah, that was great, but have you heard…?” That’s how I feel about Dragonslayer, which went completely unnoticed by me and only me three years ago (was I too busy listening to The Hazards of Love? Probably.) But my god, is this a great album, with every orchestral, Eno-like song building, through twists and turns, to a thrilling and ambitious conclusion. But hey, have you guys heard about this band Phoenix? They’re all the rage.
