We're back with another installment of
"5 Favorite Things," a new recurring feature in which we check in with bands as they make their way to New York and ask what five things—
any five things—are helping them cope with the trenches of touring. A new song they heard on the radio, a restaurant they've eaten at while on the road, an old t-shirt, a particularly twisted episode of
Breaking Bad—it's all fair game. Today we hear from
Wild Flag keyboardist Rebecca Cole as she and the rest of the band makes their way to Brooklyn to join Mission of Burma and Ted Leo for a free celebration of post-punk at
Prospect Park this Friday night. Let the leg kicks ensue.
1. Louie
This new season is so awesome. Louie C.K. keeps television relevant.
2. Bobbye Hall Porter
She's an amazing percussionist, and she's played with Bill Withers, Marvin Gaye, Pink Floyd, Stevie Nicks and so many others. A true inspiration.
3. The Olympics
I missed the Opening Ceremony last night because I'm traveling, but I'm really looking forward to watching some events. Gymnastics! Diving! The decathlon!
4. "Gun Has No Trigger"
Great track from Dirty Projectors that I keep coming back to over and over again.
5. Photocopies by John Berger
Each chapter is really short—maybe a few pages long—but super evocative.
