1. Vuk Vidor, Art History, 2004
Serbian artist Vuk Vidor’s list breaks down contemporary art history into one-hit wonders like “Beuys owns felt,” “Hirst owns the pharmacy,” and “Koons owns kitsch.” It’s tongue-in-cheek, but depressing, too. To think that these artists, while undisputed champs, only reign supreme over a very small territory, makes the reach of art feel very limited. Apparently, Vidor’s list has become so popular that it can now be worn as
a silk shawl.
