You know, sometimes a story comes along on a sleepy, slow-news afternoon that just makes you feel alive again as a blogger and a human, makes you squirm a little in your seat and think, "anything is possible in this crazy world of ours, anything at all." Today, it's the story of an anonymous extra on the Magic Mike set who turned that dream job into even more of a dream job, simply by sneaking her finger into Matthew McConaughey's ass during a pivotal scene. See?
While presenting at the New York Film Critic's Circle Awards this week, director Steven Soderbergh explained thusly:
"While we were shooting Matthew's script sequence, one very impassioned woman extra pulled his G-string off and tried to stick her finger up his butt. And when I remembered that, I thought, You know, where I come from, you stand up for a guy who brings that kind of game to your movie."
Which is certainly true. In between wondering who the hell this woman is and how exactly you get this kind of job in the first place, I'm starting to wonder if it's a little shitty (aaaaaah!) to be so delighted about this renegade, presumably non-consentual finger-in-the-butt? I guess I feel conflicted, because if this had happened to say, Demi Moore on the set of Striptease, I'd be really grossed out and angry, most likely. But the thing is, Matthew McConaughey being Matthew McConaughey, he truly does not seem to give a fuck. Not even a little.
Witness, his acceptance speech for a "Best Supporting Actor" award that night, in which he explained, "I don't think she was trying to stick her finger up my butt. She was trying to put it somewhere, though, and you got it on film. It worked out." So, case closed for the day, I suppose. Dreams really do come true.
