It feels like so long ago, but there was a time when this website (and this office) devoted a lot of energy to "America's-Most-Lovable-Douchebag,"-slash-Olympic-gold-medalist Ryan Lochte. It was a warmer time, a sexier time, a mild gaffe-filled time.
A time to which we will briefly return this morning, because, in all their wisdom (and in this weird, hard-to-blog-about time in the news cycle), ESPN decided to have Ryan Lochte pose as an adult, non-naked version of the Nevermind baby for their music issue. It all makes logical sense, right?
As does Ryan's analysis of the shot. "If you look at the baby, uh, it's, he's definitely happy in the water. And that's what I am," he explains in a behind-the-scenes video that vastly overshadows the rest of the project. "Whenever I step foot in that water, I'm happy. And he's chasing after a dollar bill! So he's always on the grind."
Aww, sure! That seems about right-ish. But Ryan, was this iconic floating belly-flop a difficult, uncomfortable departure from your usual pool stylings? Nah. "Trying to perfect the perfect shot in the water was kinda easy for me," he notes. "Hopefully everyone's reaction when they see this will be like 'Daaaang, look at that guy!' [...] I honestly think I nailed the shot." Looks like Ryan is exactly as we left him. Let's check back in on this in 3 - 6 months?
