Everybody in America loves President's Day. Or, at least, everyone with a full-time job that actually observes this national holiday loves it. Everyone else is probably indifferent. But a day off, for vague, no-strings-attached reasons? Pretty hard to argue with.
That said, this isn't like the 4th of July or something. Other than a weak tradition of Presidents' Day car sales, there's no known template for festively honoring the lives of our nation's former leaders. What are we even supposed to do today, besides catch up on errands we didn't get around to over the weekend? Hold a themed celebration that tantalizes the senses intellectually, gustatorially, and aurally, that's what. Just as George Washington intended.
Listen: Presidents of the United States of America
Sure, the name makes this one an obvious choice for a Presidents' Day soundtrack. But also, does anything put anyone in more of a celebrating mood than peppy, Clinton-era rock? Maybe peppy, Nixon-era disco, but that's a road we don't need to go down today, at least not yet. Stick with "Lump."
Travel Option: Hall of Presidents
Granted, a 3-day weekend isn't a ton of time for travel, but if you decide to jaunt down to Disney World today, ignore your more fun-having instincts and take some time to enjoy this, the squarest of all amusement park attractions. Did you know they've actually added an Obama robot (Robama, duh) to the line-up? It's all very exciting, and edifying. The grainy YouTube videos aren't super promising, but it's a form of patriotic duty to sit through it. And you never know, it could all end up like this.
