The Armory: March 7th-10th

The granddaddy of them all, this fair put Gagosian in its emerging highlights platform. Expect such delusions to be rightly challenged by commissioned artist Liz Magic Laser.

While the Armory’s blue-chip exhibitors make this obligatory for us and spectacle for everyone else, the “contemporary” section on Pier 94 balances out with more emerging galleries like DODGE, On Stellar Rays, and Suzanne Geiss. It’s also your chance to rubberneck contemporary art from a wide range of foreign exhibitors. I recommend Copenhagen’s Galleri Bo Bjerggaard.

Don’t confuse “contemporary” with “modern,” though, which means work that’s been informed by the early 20th century; that’s on Pier 92.
General Admission $30, Students $10
Piers 92/94: 711 12th Avenue, Manhattan
