Black Rock Kate Aselton
Black Rock: As Gerwig abdicates her mumblecore throne for more ambitious work (Frances Ha is probably her lowest-budget movie in a while, and it's still far more polished than, say, Hannah Takes the Stairs), fellow crossover semi-star Mark Duplass reappears, offscreen, working as screenwriter for his wife Katie Aselton, who stars with Kate Bosworth and Lake Bell in this island-set thriller. Since its festival playdates last year, the reviews haven't been stellar, but I'm intrigued by the possible reversal of Baghead's ratio of lo-fi relationship mechanics to lo-fi terrorizing. Hell, I saw the Halle Berry B-movie thriller The Call, so I think I can spare 90 minutes for the ever-underrated Bell (where's her New Girl-level sitcom vehicle?) and the likable Duplass n' Aselton.
