What neighborhood do you live in?
I’m in Greenpoint, and I really love it. It's nice to be able to walk to an actual grocery store. "Burrito Day" at Vamos al Taquila is also pretty special.
Does living in Brooklyn affect the work you make?
After living here for over five years, I've just started writing my first script with some Brooklyn locations. White Reindeer is very much about the DC area, where I grew up. But I don't know if I'd have as sharp a perspective on it if I didn't get the heck out of there. So, Brooklyn's been good for that.
What's the "film community" like in Brooklyn right now?
We are mostly very nice people.
What film that's not your own are you most excited about at the festival?
Hellaware. It's a great throwback to the Lower East Side indie films of the 80s and 90s, and it's the world premiere!
What's your favorite movie theater in Brooklyn?
I just started programming some things at Spectacle, and I really love how outre their tastes are. They've smartly kept it small and community-run; it makes a lot of sense. And I saw a double feature of Wakamatsu's Serial Rapist and The Embryo Hunts in Secret there, and it was amazing.
