Girl Most Likely Kristen Wiig
Girl Most Likely: Or, what Kristen Wiig's Bridesmaids chips look like, cashed in. Good on Wiig for taking her newfound big-screen cache and parlaying it not into a big, cheesy, self-serving vehicle but rather a little project she believed in: a movie, originally titled Imogene, about a playwright who fakes a suicide attempt and winds up living with her crazy gambling-addicted mother (Annete Bening). One hitch: doesn't that sound kind of fucking terrible? Like it might embody the kind of cutesy premise and strained wackiness that makes studio comedies often better bets than their lil-sibling counterparts? American Splendor helmers Robert Pucini and Shari Springer Berman contribute to the feeling that this should be a good movie but may not be (their other fiction features: The Nanny Diaries and The Extra Man). Then again, maybe surrounding Wiig with labored eccentricity will result in a more heartfelt and Bridesmaids-ish performance from her, even if Annette Bening is guaranteed to ham the living hell out of her role.
