I've never been comfortable with the word "jam." It's too suggestive of the type of overblown, cheesed-up songs that appeared on, well, multiple volumes of Jock Jams
or the mixed CD soundtracking my best friend's end-of-sixth-grade slumber party. But there is a certain kind of song that causes you to sweat, dance or raise your blood pressure in such a way that it only makes sense to associate it with summer. We don't have a proper name for these songs, so we find ourselves defaulting to "jams" or, when we're feeling descriptive, "summer jams." The point here? In a weekend spent cramming in every last bit of the season, don't forget to catch up on some of the best summer jams that you might've missed.
