As an avowed fan of the HBO show, Gordon's appearance is not surprising, though it is slightly provocative. You may remember her minor misgivings at the show's depiction of debatable consent in the run-up to a sex scene between Elijah and Marnie last season, chalking it up to an "ironic Williamsburg hipster" aversion to being politically correct. Despite that, this was totally inevitable. Gordon just can't help herself from appearing on any show with "girl" or "girls" in the title.
On the 6th season of dearly departed and all-time great wholesome family show Gilmore Girls, Thurston, Kim, and their daughter Coco showed up in Stars Hollow, Connecticut, to serenade the town residents, and get admonished for hopping. This was so heart-warming at the time that it's practically heart-smashing now. Sniff.
Less cuddly was SY's drop into Gossip Girl, where the band played "Starpower" and Kim officiated the wedding of truly terrible couple Rufus and Lily. While that show was kind of an ongoing atrocity, Sonic Youth sure looked like they were having a good time, and they probably made the most of it by housing the craft service table, so whatevs. Also, we bet Kim totally gave Taylor Momsen some potentially life-altering advice that she completely ignored.
The impending cameo on Girls is likely to set Twitter aflame when it finally airs. So then what? Can Kim trading verses with Zooey Deschanel on the upcoming season of The New Girl be far behind?
