Posted on Mon, Aug 22, 2011 at 1:04 PM

Good afternoon contempo casuals, our annual free movie series SummerScreen presented as part of the EPIX Movie Free-For-All series ends this Wednesday with Clueless, our favorite Alicia Silverstone movie to date (sorry, Batman & Robin). Maybe meeting new friends, ya know, wearing summer hats and shorts and lounging on blankets. Come tonight to watch Wayne's World for free, listen to some tunes from YEllow Dogs, and drink under the stars. Watch this awesome timelapse video from last week to see what you're in for.

Posted on Mon, Aug 1, 2011 at 12:28 PM

This Wednesday please take a minute out of your busy pants-dropping schedule to sit with 4000 of your friends, neighbors, and other people who could be a farmer in those clothes and watch a hard-hitting raw film chronicling a young girl growing up in California. Our annual free movie series SummerScreen presented as part of the EPIX Movie Free-For-All series continues this Wednesday with Clueless, our favorite Alicia Silverstone movie to date (sorry, Batman & Robin). Watch Twin Sister Perform a New Song, "Spain," at Last Night's Summerscreen

Posted on Thu, Jul 28, 2011 at 3:30 PM

Last night was pretty much the platonic ideal of Summerscreen: The weather was perfect, with a cool breeze blowing consistently throughout the evening's events; there was what seemed like an inordinate amount of dogs, and my 15-month-old daughter was intent on hanging out with every single one of them; the beer and food were, as always, totally delicious; the movie, Ferris Beuller's Day Off, had a very large crowd in unusually high spirits, and then there was the music: Your Youth got things started with their summery, hook-laden pop, followed by Twin Sister, who are gearing up for a busy few months, with their Domino Records debut, In Heaven, hitting shelves on September 27th. We were treated to a handful of new songs, including the immensely enjoyable, seven-minute "Spain," which our own Sydney Brownstone was kind enough to film for us. And in addition to all that, there was the actual big-screen debut of the video for Twin Sister's "Bad Street," which everyone's saying debuted on the internet this morning. Watch it (again) below.

Thanks for Coming to SummerScreen, See you Next Week for Clueless

Posted on Thu, Jul 28, 2011 at 1:13 PM

Last night, a very young Matthew Broderick danced in the Chicago Day Parade, and 4000 Brooklynites danced along with him, reminding us all that life moves pretty fast, and if you don't stop and look around once in a while, you just might miss it. Check out photos on our facebook, and also a few good ones over at the Epix website.

We'll see you next week for Clueless, in which we'll be giving away more prizes and listening to a lot of Mighty Mighty Bosstones. See you then!

Twin Sister Plays Summerscreen Tonight, Will Debut New Music Video for "Bad Street"

Posted on Wed, Jul 27, 2011 at 3:01 PM

It's one thing to be excited about much buzzed-about locals, the sweetly strange and chameleonic Twin Sister, playing McCarren Park at dusk tonight before Summerscreen presents Ferris Bueller's Day Off. It's another to be excited about the prospect of the crowd busting out a spontaneous, Sixpoint-fueled soul train when Twin Sister debuts their new music video for "Bad Street," a single off their first full-length, entitled In Heaven, due in September. "Bad Street" is a definitive summer funk jam with clever indie sensibility rooted in frontwoman Andrea Estella's distinct vocals and solid harmonies. You can listen to the track (and download it) over at Stereogum to get yourself pumped for the exclusive screening. In the meantime, check out the video for "All Around and Away We Go," a single off of Twin Sister's last EP, Color Your Life (above).

SummerScreen This Week: Ferris Bueller's Day Off

Posted on Mon, Jul 25, 2011 at 11:32 AM

gal_ferris_bueller_02.jpg
This Wednesday, put on your Detroit Red Wings jersey and dust off your clarinet. Our annual free movie series SummerScreen presented as part of the EPIX Movie Free-For-All series continues this Wednesday with the only comedy that does a flashmob right, Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Come sit with us, enjoy a snack from Pizza Moto, V-Spot, or Coolhaus, drink a beer from Six Point, and grab a free bag of Pop Chips and stop by the Vitamin Water tent for a sample or five.

Before the movie starts at sundown, enjoy a FREE musical performance from Twin Sister with openers Your Youth - amazing bands chosen for us by the geniuses over at Free Williamsburg. Bands go on at 7 pm, but get there early because there will also be boatloads of raffles and prizes; EPIX will be signing people up to win free iPad 2's at their tent, Z100 will be giving away free tickets to the Broadway musical Chicago, and LuxEye Optical and Ride Brooklyn will both be raffling off prizes that would otherwise be very expensive. Come Wednesday to find out what you're in for. Find one of our goregeous interns in a sea-foam green L Magazine shirt and give them your name to enter the drawing.

In honor of the luxury cars that Cameron and Ferris so love, Fiat will be at this week's SummerScreen with two of their awesome, Italian machines for all of us to marvel at. We're pretty excited and plan on picking up a lot of lucky high schoolers in those babies.

Well, that's it. And we never had one lesson. See you Wednesday!
