8 Bands You Need to Hear

It’s been a little while since New York City produced its last batch of bands that would go on to achieve prominence on a national level. This isn’t necessarily a bad thing. There seemed to be something of a recoil instinct that kicked in among our local musicians, driving them into the confines of their bedrooms or compelling them to cloak their work in impenetrable… who even knows what that was. But things are starting to change: bands are making bolder statements, no longer content to let “apparent indifference” stand as their defining characteristic. This is definitely a good thing. Here are eight bands (actually 14!) we’re most proud to have representing the new us.
